Alcohol Testing

Alcohol Testing

Alcohol is socially well accepted and consumed throughout the majority of adult population of most countries. However it is critical to establish a difference between social drinkers and those that heavily abuse alcohol or are dependent on alcohol.

For many years scientists have been researching the detection of alcohol in hair.

When a person consumes alcohol, various metabolites of alcohol are released into the bloodstream and as hair grows these metabolites are absorbed into the hair from the blood in the hair follicle. Alpha Biolabs focuses not on one metabolite but a combination of five.

These metabolites are Ethyl Glucuronide (EtG) and four Fatty Acid Ethyl Esters (FAEEs) and they are analysed using the latest legally defensible 'platinum' standard techniques known as HPLC/MS/MS (High Performance Liquid Chromatography coupled with tandem Mass Spectrometry detection). By closely monitoring so many metabolites it is possible to clearly distinguish whether someone does not drink alcohol, is a social drinker or whether they are a chronic abuser.

There has been an increase in the use of Hair Alcohol analysis testing throughout the UK and Europe to identify persistent alcohol abusers in recent years. This type of test has been identified by the legal profession and corporations to provide an accurate historical record of alcohol dependency or can provide evidence of long term abstinence.

It is also preferred by many due to the sample collection being non invasive with no blood required.

Alpha Biolabs is the only laboratory based in the UK to offer a comprehensive testing of five metabolites to give you the most accurate results currently available.
