AlphaBiolabs is a UKAS-accredited laboratory that has won awards for its rapid DNA testing.
Our in-house DNA scientists have developed efficient paternity tests that are both accurate and competitively priced. Is this the best paternity testing in the UK? We certainly think so. But don’t just take our word for it, check out our reviews on DNA Testing Choice.
We offer three types of paternity test
AlphaBiolabs offers three types of paternity test: Peace of Mind, Legal and Prenatal.
Peace of Mind DNA testing kits can be easily bought online from our website and posted direct to your home. The testing kits include full instructions on how to collect your DNA samples. You simply need to rub a mouth swab on the inside of your cheek to collect some cells. These home paternity testing kits cost just £99 for next day results or £169 for same day results. Our peace of mind tests can also be bought at some local High Street stores.
Prenatal paternity tests can be used to non-invasively determine paternity of a baby before birth. This innovative test can be performed as early as 6 weeks after conception. The test is completely safe to the mother and unborn child. The mother needs to supply a blood sample and the alleged father uses a mouth swab to collect his DNA. Results take up to 7 days but can be fast-tracked with our express 4-day service.
Legal paternity tests will be required for evidence in court, for child custody issues, CSA or to change the name on a birth certificate. As such, they need to be performed under strict chain of custody conditions. AlphaBiolabs has a UK-wide network of professional sample collectors that can ensure that the correct individual is providing the sample by checking ID, taking photographs and getting signed paperwork. These collectors can attend an address of your choice. Legal samples can also be collected for free at our nationwide Walk in Centres.
We can even DNA test without the father
If a father refuses to consent to a paternity test, we can perform alternative DNA relationship tests to establish a direct biological relationship via other family members. Grandparent DNA tests, for example, could prove a link between an individual and one or more of their father’s parents.
In the same way, DNA aunt testing or DNA uncle testing can be performed on the father’s sister or brother to establish a biological relationship to a child. DNA sibling testing can establish whether or not brothers and sisters have the same father. Another option is Y chromosome testing, which can prove that alleged male relatives share a common paternal line. If the males have different Y chromosome profiles then they are not related.
We continue to innovate paternity testing
Following extensive trials, AlphaBiolabs can offer two new methods of DNA testing:
- Toothbrushes have been proven to be a good source of DNA. An advantage is that samples can be collected in a more subtle way (although consent is still needed). This could be particularly useful in paternity disputes to avoid awkward questions from older children.
- DNA testing finger nails is another method whereby samples can be collected easily. This kind of test is useful when someone has passed away as a mouth swab cannot be used to collect DNA. Another advantage is that the nails can be collected under chain of custody conditions for legal cases. A DNA sample may be needed to prove paternity in the case of probate or will disputes. Alternatively, a DNA profile could be created to produce a lasting memento of a loved father.
