All DNA samples received at AlphaBiolabs are securely stored onsite. After testing, the samples are kept for 3 months and then destroyed by incineration. All identification documents, both hard copy and electronic files, are destroyed after 12–18 months.
Peace of Mind DNA testing kits can be securely bought from our website and posted direct to your home. We offer Paternity, Maternity, Sibling, Twin, Grandparent, Aunt and Uncle, Y Chromosome and Single Profile tests. DNA relationship testing kits can also be bought at some local High Street stores.
The DNA samples can be collected in the comfort of your own home following the simple instructions provided in the testing kit. This just involves rubbing mouth swabs provided on the inside of your cheek. These collected buccal cells are then returned to our laboratory using a self-addressed envelope.
Prenatal paternity and baby gender tests can also be ordered direct from our website. A blood sample from the mother is needed for these tests, which will need to be collected by a medical professional. There is no harm to the unborn child when undertaking these DNA tests.
AlphaBiolabs offers a nationwide sample collection service at its 10 Walk in Centres. These are located in North London, South London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Preston, Warrington, Newcastle upon Tyne and Glasgow. Trained collectors are available at these clinics to take DNA samples.
This service is particularly useful in legal DNA cases, when the tests need to stand as evidence in court or for child custody issues. Legal DNA samples cannot be collected by the individual being tested. A sample collector needs to follows strict chain of custody conditions to ensure that the correct individual is providing the sample by checking ID, taking photographs and getting signed paperwork.
Confidentiality is maintained
Your results are emailed back to you as a pdf file that requires a password to open it. This protects the report from being opened by anyone other than the person who instructed the test.
We only discuss any details of our DNA testing with those who are entitled to know (on receipt of correct passwords or answers to unique security questions). We also go to great lengths to minimise any chance of the company name being recognised in any correspondence. For example, online payment transactions do not name AlphaBiolabs as the recipient on bank statements. In addition, all of our testing kits are sent out in discreet plain packaging with no company logos or branding.
