AlphaBiolabs offers an in-house prenatal DNA test to accurately determine the paternity of a baby before the child is born. This non-invasive prenatal paternity test delivers highly accurate test results. The advanced procedure preserves and analyses the baby’s DNA that is found within the mother’s bloodstream. This is possible because the cell-free foetal DNA from the baby transfers through the placenta.
This testing is far safer for mother and baby than invasive prenatal testing and there is no risk of miscarriage. As such, this solution can give you peace of mind long before the baby is born. An accurate gender test can also be requested.
AlphaBiolabs does not outsource the testing or our services. All stages of testing happen here in our state-of-the-art lab, so we have complete control over the quality of services provided.
What happens in a DNA test before baby is born?
The prenatal paternity test can be taken after the eighth week of pregnancy. A blood sample is needed from the mother and two cheek swabs from alleged father.
A baby inherits DNA from both its parents. Prenatal paternity tests can identify if a man is the father of a baby by looking at samples containing:
- the man’s DNA
- the pregnant woman’s DNA, and
- the unborn baby’s DNA
We may not get a result if there is insufficient foetal DNA. Unfortunately, we can’t predict how much foetal DNA will be present in a mother’s blood and we don’t find this out until after testing. Insufficient DNA may be due to a resistant placental barrier or efficient kidneys which clear the cell-free DNA from the mother’s blood.
If the first test has failed due to insufficient foetal DNA, we ask the mother to wait a further 2 weeks before providing another blood sample. By this time, the foetal DNA level should have increased, but this is not guaranteed. In some donors the level never reaches a sufficient level for successful testing.
Our standard fee for prenatal paternity testing is £875 and your results will be sent to you within 7 working days of your samples being received by our laboratory staff. If you need the results as quickly as possible, you can choose to receive them within 4 working days by selecting our express option for an additional £200. To help you pay for this test, a 6-months interest-free credit option is also available upon request. Call now on 0333 600 1300 to apply.
