Can you do a DNA test on an unborn baby?

Prenatal DNA tests mean it is now possible to resolve any doubts about a child’s paternity before they are even born.

Questions over the identity of a baby’s father can cause a strain on relationships and additional stress during pregnancy. While some people may choose to wait until after the birth to carry out a paternity test, scientific advances mean that it is now possible to safely test an unborn baby’s DNA while they are still in the womb.

AlphaBiolabs offers prenatal paternity tests that are completely risk-free and pose no threat to the health of the unborn baby. While some DNA tests in pregnancy can increase the chance of miscarriage by using a needle to remove fluid from the womb, the test we carry out is non-invasive and simply involves taking a blood sample from the baby’s mother, together with two mouth swabs from the alleged father.

Using cutting-edge technology, our highly skilled scientists will look for traces of the baby’s DNA, which is found in the mother’s bloodstream. Once this DNA has been found, it can be analysed and compared to the sample taken from the alleged father to see if there is a match.

The test can be carried out from as early as seven weeks into the pregnancy.

Guaranteed results or your money back

The standard prenatal paternity test offered by AlphaBiolabs costs £875 and you will receive the results in just seven working days. If you cannot wait that long, you can choose our express option for an additional £200 and you will receive your confidential results within four working days.

There is a six-month interest-free credit payment option for those who would prefer to pay in instalments.

Occasionally, the mother’s blood sample will not contain high enough levels of the baby’s DNA and this will lead to an inconclusive result.  In the event of an inconclusive result, you will be offered another test free of charge.

If it is not possible to give you a definite result after three tests, we will refund the cost of your prenatal paternity test. AlphaBiolabs is the only DNA testing company to offer customers this money-back guarantee.

Please note that the customer is responsible for the cost of all blood sample collections involved in the testing process.

All our prenatal paternity testing is carried out at our award-winning UK-based laboratory. Our DNA testing services are world-renowned and have been used by television production companies including the BBC and ITV.

AlphaBiolabs is the only testing laboratory in the UK to offer prenatal paternity testing in-house. As all of our testing is carried out within the UK, we don’t send any of our samples abroad for analysis. This means that your samples will not be damaged or contaminated during international transit, and we are also able to get your results to you as quickly as possible.
