Alcohol testing in Cardiff

Alcohol testing in Cardiff

Alcohol testing in Cardiff has never been easier with a Walk in Centre now available for sample collection.

AlphaBiolabs offers discreet, affordable and reliable alcohol testing in Cardiff with drop-in sessions now available at our Walk in Centre at Grange Medical Practice in Grangetown. In the past, customers had to arrange for one of our sample collection team to visit them at their home or workplace but people can simply come along to the Walk in Centre for an alcohol test instead.

We offer a selection of alcohol tests to meet different needs. We can test for the presence of alcohol in someone’s breath, blood or a sample of their nail clippings or hair. AlphaBiolabs also offers continuous testing through a bracelet which can detect alcohol. Our customers include members of the public who are concerned for a family member’s wellbeing, social workers, probation staff, legal professionals and businesses which operate workplace alcohol testing.

Which alcohol test do I need?

The type of test you should choose depends on why you are carrying out the test. If you want a test that can tell you whether someone has alcohol in their system at that moment, a breath test gives an immediate and accurate result. Blood testing can give a picture of alcohol consumption over the previous month with samples being analysed for biomarkers. AlphaBiolabs offers four blood tests: a liver function test (LFT), a carbohydrate deficient transferrin (CDT) test, a mean corpuscular volume (MCV) test and phosphatidylethanol (PEth) testing. Hair strand tests detect two different alcohol metabolites: ethyl glucuronide (EtG) and fatty acid ethyl ester (FAEE). Detection of these metabolites allow us to build a picture of an individual’s alcohol use over a period of up to 6 months.

In circumstances where continuous monitoring is necessary for whatever reason, we offer SCRAM Continuous Alcohol Monitoring®, also known as SCRAM CAM®. This is an ankle bracelet which can detect the presence of alcohol in sweat with accurate tests performed automatically at half-hourly intervals. Sometimes referred to as ‘sobriety tagging’, this is a useful tool for agencies and authorities which need to monitor individuals who are known to be dependent on alcohol. SCRAM CAM® bracelets can be fitted at our Cardiff Walk in Centre and staff are able to monitor data from the device and produce reports detailing the results.
