AlphaBiolabs awarded UKAS LAB 51 accreditation for analysis of toxicology samples

We are proud to announce that AlphaBiolabs is one of the first toxicology laboratories to achieve UKAS LAB 51 accreditation, placing us once again at the forefront of technological development within our industry.

The accreditation, which is an extension of our existing ISO 17025 standard, was awarded following a stringent assessment of our toxicology laboratory and evidences that our processes are fully compliant with the LAB 51 standard.

As an established laboratory with over 15 years’ experience providing drug and alcohol testing services for the legal profession, the workplace sector, and members of the public, we are committed to maintaining the very highest quality standards.

With this enhancement to our existing ISO 17025 accreditation, our customers can be further assured of receiving the best possible service and 100% accurate, reliable results.

What is UKAS LAB 51?

Laboratories like AlphaBiolabs, which undertake analysis of samples such as blood, urine, hair, nails, oral fluid and more for the presence of drugs and drug metabolites, are working in a rapidly-changing environment.

Continuous developments in technology and analytical processes have undoubtedly resulted in considerable benefits and improvements within the industry.

However, they have also led to concerns about the integrity of some of the toxicology data being reported.

In some instances, discrepancies in toxicology reports have led to the withdrawal of cases from the criminal and civil justice systems, and have even led to criminal prosecutions.

In response to these changes in methodology, and concerns over data integrity, UKAS undertook a review of all accredited laboratories within the field of toxicology – including AlphaBiolabs – and consulted with them about how consistency could be achieved in the industry.

As a result, the new standard LAB 51 UKAS Accreditation of Laboratories Performing Analysis of Toxicology Samples was created.
