Cardiff Walk in Centre opens

AlphaBiolabs has opened its first one-stop shop for DNA, drug and alcohol testing services in Wales*. This newest Walk in Centre is the eleventh in its nationwide network across the UK.

“Increased demand from customers led us to open this Walk in Centre”, said AlphaBiolabs Managing Director David Thomas. “We are proud to offer the widest range of DNA, drug and alcohol testing services in the UK.”

A range of DNA tests will be available at the Cardiff Walk in Centre, including Paternity, Maternity, Sibling, Grandparent, Aunt/Uncle, Y chromosome and Twin testing services. The tests only involve swabbing cheek cells and no blood is needed. When the samples are received back in the UK-based laboratory, results can be made available the same day or next working day. A risk-free non-invasive Prenatal test can also be arranged to determine the paternity of a baby before birth.

“Undertaking a DNA test can be an anxious time. We therefore take appropriate measures to ensure that confidentiality is maintained at every step”, said David Thomas. “All results are emailed back and password protected for security.”

DNA testing for legal purposes, such as for immigration, can also be arranged at the Walk in Centre. The legal tests follow strict chain of custody conditions and the results are recognised and admissible to UK courts, the Ministry of Justice, UK Passport Office and the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) service.

Drug and alcohol testing in Cardiff

Staff at the Cardiff Walk in Centre will be able to offer advice on the best methods to record alcohol or drug abuse. From home drug test kits to innovative alcohol-testingbracelets, breath, hair, blood, nail, urine and oral fluids can all be analysed with results as quickly as next day.

The company is particularly proud of its SCRAM Continuous Alcohol Monitoring® (SCRAM CAM®), which is the most accurate and comprehensive method of measuring alcohol consumption on the market. The bracelet is worn on the ankle and tests for the presence of consumed alcohol in perspiration every 30 minutes. This form of testing is the first of its kind to detect the entire drinking event, from start to finish, in real time. SCRAM CAM® can provide local authorities, courts and child-protection agencies with the additional tools to change behaviours in vulnerable and higher-risk alcohol-dependent clients. Staff at the Cardiff Walk in Centre can fit the SCRAM CAM® bracelets, monitor the results and provide reports after an agreed time period.
