Cyber-attacks are, sadly, part of a growing and alarming trend. They are becoming more frequent and more damaging to companies. It’s not only a company’s reputation that suffers but also the cost to business and loss of trust with customers.
This week the Chief Executive of Travelex has spoken out for the first time following its cyber-attack 2 weeks ago that caused a global blackout in the foreign exchange provider’s online services. Tony D’Souza said the IT system used by staff was now working again and apologised “for the loss of some of our services and any inconvenience that has caused”.
The company had been forced to use pen and paper to serve thousands of customers after hackers from the ransomware gang Sodinokibi had demanded $6 million (£4.6 million) from Travelex in return for customer data.
