Do new members of staff need to be tested for COVID-19?

New and existing members of staff can be tested for COVID-19 infection, as part of a robust testing regime for your business.

Combining COVID testing for your employees, with the now standard face masks and hand gels, is an effective way of making sure you limit the spread of coronavirus so it doesn’t work its way through your team and towards that all important bottom line!

Which types of COVID-19 test are available?

There are currently three types of test for COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2). Two of them can detect a current, active infection and the third will detect an historic or recent case. Using all three will give you a clear picture of any infected employees and allow you to take quick action to stop a spread.

Taking a look at each test in more detail – the PCR test is considered the gold standard in COVID-19 testing. Using a sample collected from the nose and throat areas, scientists at our dedicated laboratory will look for the presence of viral RNA which, when found, will confirm a positive case. We will inform you within 1-2 working days of the result, regardless of a positive or negative finding.

The Antigen test will also determine a current infection but results are obtained via a portable, lateral flow immunoassay device. A throat and nasal swab are also required, but the testing part is carried out via the device, on-site and results are visible via a display window on the device in just 15 minutes.

The Antibody test will determine COVID-19 infection after the onset of coronavirus symptoms or from 21 days after exposure to the virus. Where an individual has developed antibodies to the virus, a positive result will be displayed on the immunoassay device, similar to the Antigen test. The Antibody test is carried out using a finger-prick blood sample.
