How much does a prenatal paternity test cost? How does the test work? How long does it take to get the results? We answer some of your most common questions about prenatal DNA testing…
How much does a prenatal paternity test cost?
A prenatal paternity test costs from £875. There are actually three options available:
- Pay £795 for results within 7 working days
- Pay £1195 for an express service with results in 4 days
- Use our interest-free credit option and pay in instalments
The test can be performed at any point of pregnancy after 9 weeks’ gestation. As a woman’s pregnancy is calculated from the date of her last period, this is around 7 weeks after conception. It is a completely non-invasive procedure, which means there are no risks to the mother or unborn child.
AlphaBiolabs’ prenatal paternity DNA test only requires a blood sample from the mother (usually from her arm) and a mouth swab from the alleged father.
How does the prenatal paternity test work?
During pregnancy, some of the baby’s DNA enters the mother’s bloodstream. This is known as foetal circulating cell-free DNA. Our DNA scientists are able to separate this from the mother’s DNA for testing using the very latest scientific equipment.
When the baby’s DNA is isolated and extracted, it is compared to the DNA samples taken from the mother and the alleged father. The team will then be able to ascertain whether the father and baby are biologically related.
