Identical Korean twins reunite after being adopted by different US families

Two sisters who had no idea that they each had an identical twin have been reunited, just before their 36^th birthdays.

Molly Sinert and Emily Bushnell were separated at birth in South Korea and adopted by different Jewish families from the US. Molly went on to live in Florida, while Emily was adopted by a family from Pennsylvania.

Neither of the sisters knew much about their biological family, but were able to trace each other thanks to DNA testing.

This in part was down to Emily’s 11-year-old daughter, Isabel, who wanted to find out more about her mother’s family history.

Speaking to Good Morning America, she said: “I wanted to do the DNA test because she was adopted. I wanted to find out if I had more family on her side.”

Meanwhile, halfway across the country, Molly had also decided to take a DNA test as she wanted to learn more about her health history. Both her and her niece received their DNA test results around the same time in early 2021.

Molly said: [The results said] “You share 49.96% DNA with this person. We predict that she’s your daughter. This is obviously not right, because I’ve never gone into labour, I don’t have children.”

After realising their true relationship, the sisters were able to chat from afar and share pictures. However, they decided not to have a video call before meeting face-to-face.

Not only were the twin sisters both adopted by Jewish families, they quickly discovered other similarities. They’d both had cats growing up, and had even worn similar dresses, hairstyles and necklaces to their high school proms!

When they met, Emily said: “This is the happiest moment of my life. I can honestly say that. I was robbed of the last 36 years of a life that I could have had with my twin. But at the same time I’m very grateful and excited for what lies ahead.”
