International Day of Charity 2021

Every year, the International Day of Charity is observed on 5^th September.

Established by the United Nations in 2012, the day raises awareness of all charitable activities whether on a local, national, regional, or international level.

The date was chosen to commemorate the anniversary of the passing away of Mother Teresa, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 “for work undertaken in the struggle to overcome poverty and distress, which also constitute a threat to peace.”

The International Day of Charity recognises the tireless efforts of the charitable organisations and individuals who devote their lives to helping others.

As a DNA, drug and alcohol testing provider, our sample collectors see first-hand the effects that relationship issues, alcohol consumption, and substance misuse can have on children, their families, and the communities they live in.

Drug and alcohol abuse, poverty, violence, and child protection issues are all sadly commonplace in the homes that our sample collectors visit every day.

That’s why we are helping four incredible charities as part of our Giving Back campaign.

We have chosen to support:

National Association for Children of Alcoholics (Nacoa)

One in five children in the UK are affected by a parent’s drinking. Nacoa offers confidential advice and support to the children of alcohol-dependent parents. The charity helps anyone struggling with a parent’s drinking habits, even into adulthood.

National Youth Advocacy Service (NYAS)

NYAS provides advocacy and legal representation to care-experienced children and young adults. This charity empowers young people and ensures that their voice is heard.

Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs (SFAD)

This Glasgow-based charity supports anyone concerned about a loved one’s alcohol or drug use in Scotland. SFAD ensures that families aren’t alone in dealing with these issues, providing help, guidance, and support.

TGP Cymru

A Welsh children’s rights charity, TGP Cymru supports and represents vulnerable children and young people through a range of projects, campaigns, and training initiatives.
