Onsite COVID-19 tests are essential to keep workplaces and academic institutions open and operational. Now more than ever, with the second coronavirus wave crashing down on us. Besides reassuring employees, regular COVID-19 testing can reduce absenteeism due to unnecessary self-isolation, ensure only healthy staff remain on-site and demonstrate to stakeholders that you are fit to operate.

According to the World Health Organization, 80% of COVID-19 infections are mild or asymptomatic [1]. Only one asymptomatic employee could spread the virus to an entire workforce as well as members of the public. However, with regular onsite COVID-19 tests, any employee that tests positive can immediately leave the workplace to begin self-isolating, limiting any further spread.

Two onsite COVID-19 tests are available that are affordable, rapid and provide an accurate way to determine the infection status of employees at work or returning to the workplace. In addition, armed with the results, managers can identify high-risk environments and spot patterns of infection so measures can be put in place to minimise future risks of exposure.

Onsite COVID-19 tests with results in 15 minutes

The COVID-19 Antigen (Ag) Rapid Test can detect a current coronavirus infection, in just 15 minutes, from 14 days after initial exposure to the virus and or after the onset of symptoms. Using a sterile swab, a sample is collected from the nasal and throat areas. This is then mixed with a buffer solution and placed in the sample well of the immunoassay device.

The AlphaBiolabs Antibody rapid screening kit also takes just 15 minutes to detect a body’s immunological response to an active or recent exposure to COVID-19. It can identify a coronavirus infection from 21 days after exposure to the COVID-19 virus or from 7 days onwards after the onset of symptoms. Unlike the antigen test, this kit analyses a finger-prick blood sample.

The results of both CE-marked tests are displayed as lines on the testing device cassettes. Both are easy to interpret and full instructions are included in the testing kits.
