Prenatal paternity testing in Liverpool

We can perform a non-invasive prenatal paternity test in Liverpool as early as 6 weeks after conception (or 8 weeks after the last period). This novel procedure is ideal if there is uncertainty surrounding the father of the baby. Not only can this test be carried out at an early stage of the pregnancy, it is 100% safe to both mother and child.

Previously, invasive procedures would have been relied upon to get a sample of an unborn baby’s DNA (such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling). However, there is a slight risk of miscarriage with both of these methods. Our prenatal paternity DNA test does not carry such risks.

The test works by analysing a baby’s DNA within the mother’s bloodstream. All the mother needs to do is provide a blood sample. The alleged father’s sample simply involves using a mouth swab to collect DNA from his cheek cells.

Because a baby inherits DNA from both of its parents, the prenatal paternity test analyses the DNA samples from mum, alleged dad and the baby to identify which half of the DNA is inherited from the mother and which half is from the father. If the man is indeed the biological father, both baby and father will share DNA.

The mouth swab and blood samples do not need to be collected at the same location, but they should be collected around the same time to avoid any delays and the risk of the blood samples haemolysing. There are three sample collection options for prenatal paternity tests in and around Liverpool:

• The blood and mouth swab samples can be collected at our conveniently-located Walk in Centre in Liverpool city centre (Trident House, 31–33 Dale Street, L2 2HF). We also have Walk in Centres in nearby Warrington and Manchester.
• We can arrange for one of our highly trained sample collectors to come to your house or anywhere else convenient to collect your samples.
• Alternatively, we can send you a testing kit and you can arrange your own collections through your GP or another medical professional.

Once your samples are received at our Warrington-based laboratory, the testing process can begin. Your results will be available within 7 days for £795.
