We can perform non-invasive prenatal paternity testing in Manchester as early as 7 weeks after conception (or 9 weeks after the last period). To get a sample of an unborn baby’s DNA, procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling used to be performed. However, these are both invasive methods and therefore incur a slight risk of miscarriage. Thankfully, our prenatal DNA test does not carry such risks.
How does the prenatal paternity test work?
Prenatal paternity testing involves analysing a baby’s DNA within the mother’s bloodstream to determine the biological father before the baby is born.
All the mother needs to do is provide a blood sample so there are no side effects or risk of miscarriage. The alleged father’s sample simply involves using a mouth swab to collect DNA from his cheek cells. Because a baby inherits DNA from both of its parents, the prenatal paternity test analyses the three DNA samples to identify which half of the DNA is inherited from the mother and which half is from the father. If the man is indeed the biological father, both baby and father will share DNA.
DNA prenatal paternity testing options in Manchester
The mouth swab and blood samples do not need to be collected at the same location, but they should be collected around the same time to avoid any delays and the risk of the blood samples haemolysing.
There are three sample collection options for prenatal paternity tests in and around Manchester. The blood and mouth swab samples can be collected at our conveniently-located Walk in Centre in Manchester city centre. We can arrange for one of our highly trained sample collectors to come to your house or anywhere else convenient to collect your samples. Or alternatively, your GP or another medical professional could be asked to collect your samples (although this may incur an additional fee).
Once your samples are received at our Warrington-based laboratory, the testing process can begin. Your results will be available within 7 days for £795. Alternatively, we offer an express 4-day service for an additional £200. A 6-month interest-free credit option is available. Please call 0333 600 1300 to apply.
