A rapid test for COVID-19 (coronavirus), also known as an Antigen test, can be used to determine a current case of COVID-19 in as little as 15 minutes.

For workplaces and commercial settings, the rapid COVID-19 Antigen test is available for testing large or small teams of staff to pinpoint any current infections amongst your employees.

The rapid COVID-19 Antigen test is an effective and affordable way of keeping coronavirus outbreaks at bay, particularly when used as part of a regular testing programme to screen employees as they return to and from the workplace.

The rapid Antigen test can be administered by the employee themselves and requires no further analysis via a laboratory or medical professional. The lateral flow device displays a positive or negative result via a small display window giving employers the answers they need to either take action in the case of a positive result, or proceed as normal when an employee tests negative.

Using a sterile swab to collect a nose and throat sample, the test is then carried out by dropping a small amount of that sample, mixed with a buffer liquid, into the sample well on the lateral flow device. Within 15 minutes, a result will be visible showing either a negative or positive result.

For employers, the test is a game changer when it comes to keeping your business running in the midst of the pandemic and the many challenges it presents. Having peace of mind that you can pinpoint staff currently carrying the COVID-19 virus and separate them from the rest of the workforce is hugely reassuring and allows you to make contingency plans for when staff changes do occur.

COVID-19 test for the public

As it stands, COVID-19 rapid Antigen testing is not yet available to the public. Instead, the PCR swab test is available and is in fact considered the gold standard in COVID-19 testing.

Like the rapid Antigen test, the AlphaBiolabs PCR test requires a nose and throat swab sample. The sample is then packaged up and returned to our accredited, expert testing laboratory for analysis by our trained scientists, who will determine a result using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology.

With many providers, the process can take up to 48 hours for a result to be determined. AlphaBiolabs, however, is proud to be able to provide a result the same working day via our world-class, dedicated testing laboratory located at one of the UK’s most renowned science and laboratory facilities.
