World Adoption Day

Smiles all around for World Adoption Day

In the UK, there are almost 3,000 children in need of an adoptive family and the number of adoptions in England has fallen by one-third in 4 years. In response, a new national recruitment campaign has been launched. #YouCanAdopt aims to bust myths around who is eligible to adopt and explain what the adoption process involves. It also seeks to highlight that there are still children out there who are waiting too long for their ‘forever family’.

World Adoption Day is also shining a light on the issue globally with the help of social media. On 9th November, celebrities, instagrammers and other influencers are being encouraged to draw smiley faces on their hands to let adoptees know that they are not alone.

“Every adoption journey is different”, say the organisers, “but most stories often start from a painful place where a mother and a child are tragically separated. On #WorldAdoptionDay, although you might be reconciling your own adoption experience, you are not alone.” On World Adoption Day, people are being encouraged to share their story and to celebrate families brought together through adoption.

In the 6 years since the first #WorldAdoptionDay, over 60,000 people from around the globe, representing all seven continents, have taken part in the celebration.

Confidential DNA relationship testing

For some adoptees, a DNA relationship test later in life offers a way to find, or confirm, a biological relationship with their birth parents. AlphaBiolabs offers a range of DNA relationship tests to the public, including maternity and paternity tests. And for those who believe that they have found another family member such as a sibling, aunt, uncle, or grandparent, we can also provide DNA testing to confirm a biological relationship.

We completely understand the highly sensitive and sometimes life-changing process of DNA testing. For this reason, our DNA testing is 100% confidential and data security is paramount. We adhere to the General Data Protection Regulation. This means that DNA samples are destroyed after 3 months and all identification documents (paper copies and electronic files) are destroyed after 12–18 months. In addition, we password-protect all data and keep all correspondence completely confidential. From the moment we receive your DNA sample, strict procedures are followed to ensure total security.
