How DNA testing works?

DNA analysis is increasingly used within the legal sector to resolve matters ranging from family law issues (such as child support, child custody, and visitation disputes), to inheritance disputes, or to satisfy immigration requirements.

It is a legal requirement for DNA samples for legal proceedings to be taken by a registered nurse or GP. Alternatively a registered nurse from our sampling team will visit the client’s home address.

Drug and alcohol testing in hair can establish a consumption history ranging for long periods of time. With drugs we can look back as far as twelve months and with alcohol as far as 6 months.
Testing hair for drugs and alcohol can easily establish and verify persistent substance misusers.
It provides help with differentiating between a one-off user and a chronic substance misuser. This evidence is used to protect children and families from an abuser of these substances.

We have formed excellent working relationships with the British High Commission in a wide variety of countries and can send kits there for samples to be collected for you and your client with ease.

What about blood and hair sample collection for Drug & alcohol?

DNA analysis is increasingly used within the legal sector to resolve matters ranging from family law issues (such as child support, child custody, and visitation disputes), to inheritance disputes, or to satisfy immigration requirements.
Hair sample collection is strongly recommended to be collected by one of our company nurses as it is a specialist procedure. We like to use head hair ideally but body hair can be used also.

How do I instruct AlphaBiolabs to perform a Drug, Alcohol or DNA test?

Simply complete and return one of referral forms, which can be downloaded from above, fill in one of our online application forms here or called one of advisor’s on 0333 600 1300 who can email you a form.

What relationships can you identify?

DNA testing can conclusively identify direct parent / child relationships and is extremely Powerful in identifying close relationships such as aunt / uncle or niece / nephew, grandparent/ Grandchild or brother / sister. DNA testing may also provide useful information to assess half brother / sister relationships. Unfortunately we cannot prove a cousin relationship as the relationship is too distant to share similar DNA markers.

Who will take the samples for the test?

AlphaBiolabs have a nationwide network of nurses who will visit clients home address to collect the samples and complete the necessary paperwork. If your client can get to one of our clinics which are based in and around Manchester, we will off their sample collection FREE OF CHARGE. No other laboratory offers this service.

What do I need to have with me at the sampling appointment?

We need all parties to have with them some proof of Identity, can be passport, driving licence, recent utility bill or similar. You will have you photograph taken by our nurse who will then sign the back of this to provide they are a true likeness of the person providing the sample. This is what’s known as the chain of custody which we need to follow to ensure your report is accepted by the legal bodies.

Can dyeing or bleaching affect the test results?

Yes. We always ask if you client has or does use hair products as this can affect the results.

How long will it take?

To courier samples to any other country we have to allow around 2-3 working days. From when we receive all samples back into our laboratory, you will receive your results within 3 working days.

How can I Pay for my test?

If legal aid funding is not available for your test, we can offer a payment plan.
We accept card payment over the phone, cheques, BACs transfer and cash bank deposits.

What is an expert statement of witness report?

An expert witness report details the testing procedure from sample collection through to the reporting of results. It interprets in detail, the results and findings of the test and also the ways in which the chain of custody was observed.
