How DNA testing works?

DNA analysis is increasingly used within the legal sector to resolve matters ranging from family law issues (such as child support, child custody, and visitation disputes), to inheritance disputes, or to satisfy immigration requirements.

It is a legal requirement for DNA samples for legal proceedings to be taken by a registered nurse or GP. Alternatively a registered nurse from our sampling team will visit the client’s home address.

Drug & Alcohol testing

Drug and alcohol testing in hair can establish a consumption history ranging for long periods of time. With drugs we can look back as far as twelve months and with alcohol as far as 6 months.
Testing hair for drugs and alcohol can easily establish and verify persistent substance misusers.
It provides help with differentiating between a one-off user and a chronic substance misuser. This evidence is used to protect children and families from an abuser of these substances.

What about blood and hair sample collection for Drug & alcohol?

Can body hair be used if there is no head hair?

For drug testing yes we can use body hair, however we cannot segment body hair to give a month by month analysis. You will be given your results an overview of the previous 3 or 6 months. We cannot use body hair for alcohol testing as we follow the society of hair testing guidelines.

Can dyeing or bleaching affect the test results?

Yes. We always ask if you client has or does use hair products as this can affect the results.

What are my sample collection options?

Our company nurses will visit an address of your instruction, whether it be your offices, the clients home address, a contact centre or even prison. You can also use our Manchester drop in clinic – the address is below – please phone to book your appointment.

An expert witness report details the testing procedure from sample collection through to the reporting of results. It interprets in detail, the results and findings of the test and also the ways in which the chain of custody was observed.

Can repeat / regular testing be done on the same client?

Yes. We can perform the same test on an on-going basis based on whatever time scales you give us. This allows us To give you a comprehensive analysis and also can tell you if there is a decrease / increase in the levels excessive drug / alcohol consumption.

What is the difference between an overview or segments?

AlphaBiolabs can look at different time scales based on your instructions and also the length of hair available. Head hair grows at approximately 1cm per month. Given we know this we can perform an overview of the last 1-6 months findings or alternatively cut the hair into 1cm segments and give a month by month analysis of the findings. This can prove useful if somebody is claiming they have drank a lot in the past but have not done recently for example.
