How do we do our aunt DNA testing
An Aunt DNA Test works by comparing the DNA profile of a potential aunt with their niece or nephew to identify matching DNA markers and is often used to establish paternity or maternity when the potential parent of a child is unable to provide a DNA sample, but their full biological sibling is available to be tested instead.
Because a biological aunt shares a significant proportion of their DNA with their sibling, they will also share DNA markers with that sibling’s child (their biological niece or nephew).
Our Aunt DNA Test analyses up to 45 DNA markers (loci) – double the industry standard for DNA testing – for an accurate, reliable result.
The test kit includes mouth swabs to be rubbed gently and painlessly on the inside of the cheek, to collect cheek cell DNA, with no needles required.
Your test kit will be sent direct to your preferred address in discreet, plain packaging, for full confidentiality.
To provide you with the most accurate result, it is recommended that the potential aunt who has a claimed biological link to the child should be tested along with the child and their biological mother (or father, if the aunt is related to the child through the mother). However, this is not essential, and the test can still be performed without a biological parent’s DNA sample.
Please note that the potential aunt being tested must be a biological sibling of the child’s potential father or mother – not a half sibling.

How do same day and next day aunt DNA results work?
Once you have received your DNA kit and taken your cheek swab samples, you will need to post the samples back to our laboratory using the self-addressed envelope provided in the kit.

What is the difference between the standard and the enhanced test?
Our standard aunt test is already industry-leading, as it analyses 25 DNA markers (the industry standard only analyses 16-21 markers).
What makes AlphaBiolabs unique is that we can also analyse up to 45 DNA markers. This allows more genetic material to be analysed, which strengthens the result and provides additional reassurance.
This is ideal for customers who want the most powerful DNA test available.
It is also particularly useful in tests of a more complex nature, such as an aunt test, where the chance of obtaining a conclusive result will always be lower than the more straightforward paternity or maternity tests. This is because the DNA hasn’t been directly inherited. The enhanced test will increase the chance of obtaining a conclusive result.
