Our services
STI/STD testing
An AlphaBiolabs sexually transmitted infection (STI) test is a simple, accurate way for an individual to find out if they have contracted an infection.
Our comprehensive product range includes STI testing for males and females, and tests for some of the most common pathogens including chlamydia, gonorrhoea, herpes, syphilis, and HIV.
Unlike many other testing providers, our STI testing solutions, methods and procedures have been developed in accordance with stringent guidelines as set by the British Association for Sexual Health & HIV (BASHH), the Faculty of Sexual Reproductive Healthcare (FSHR) and the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

Genetic coeliac disease test
An AlphaBiolabs genetic coeliac disease test is a fast, accurate back-to-lab test that can tell individuals whether they carry the genes linked to coeliac disease.
Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disease that develops over time because of a sensitivity to gluten, a protein found in certain cereal grains including wheat, rye, and barley, and commonly used in food products including bread, cereal, and pasta.
The disease runs in families and can start at any age, making genetic testing an extremely useful tool for determining whether an individual is at risk of developing the condition.
Our genetic coeliac disease test is non-invasive, with only a cheek swab sample required, and uses Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) typing to confirm or rule out the potential of developing coeliac disease by analysing six DNA markers for the HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8 genes.
This test cannot be used to diagnose coeliac disease, but can be used to either confirm or rule out the risk of developing the condition in the future.
Genetic lactose intolerance test
Primary lactose intolerance is the most common form of lactose intolerance worldwide.
An AlphaBiolabs genetic lactose intolerance test is a fast and accurate back-to-lab test that can tell individuals whether they carry the gene variations linked to primary lactose intolerance.
Lactose intolerance is a common digestive issue where the body fails to produce enough of the lactase enzyme. The lactase enzyme is required to break down lactose, the sugar mainly found in dairy products such as milk.
Our genetic lactose intolerance test is non-invasive, with only a simple cheek swab sample required. Our in-house scientists will analyse the cheek swab DNA sample to look for changes (mutations/variations) at specific locations of the MCM6 gene – the gene that helps regulate the production of the lactase enzyme.
If variations are detected, this indicates that the individual has primary lactose intolerance, and can therefore seek the correct diagnosis and treatment.
DNA testing
We are a leading provider of DNA testing and use the very latest techniques in DNA analysis to help people verify biological relationships between family members.
We offer a comprehensive range of DNA relationship tests direct from our award-winning, UKAS-accredited laboratory, including paternity, non-invasive prenatal paternity (NIPP), maternity, sibling, grandparent, aunt or uncle, cousin, Y chromosome, single profile genetic testing, and viability testing.
Non-invasive prenatal paternity (NIPP) test
An AlphaBiolabs non-invasive prenatal paternity (NIPP) test can be performed as early as 7 weeks into pregnancy and is used to determine the identity of a child’s biological father while the mother is still pregnant.
The test is 100% risk free for mother and baby, with only cheek swabs required from the alleged father, plus cheek swabs and a blood sample from the mother.
Our prenatal paternity testing uses a state-of-the-art process that combines the latest DNA technology and unique methods of preserving the baby’s DNA, which is naturally found in the mother’s bloodstream from 7 weeks into pregnancy.
We are the only UK laboratory to hold ISO 17025 accreditation for NIPP testing.
Extended carrier screening
An AlphaBiolabs extended carrier screening test is a back-to-lab test that can tell individuals their genetic carrier status for over 418 recessive inherited disorders.
Although each genetic disorder is rare in itself, there are hundreds of such disorders. Statistics shows that as many as 1 in 17 people will be affected by an inherited genetic disorder in their lifetime.*
The test is non-invasive, with only a simple cheek swab sample required, and uses a scientific process called Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) to investigate gene mutations (variants) that are known to cause rare genetic disorders.

Baby gender test
An AlphaBiolabs baby gender test can be performed as early as 8 weeks into pregnancy and is used to determine the gender of an unborn baby while the mother is still pregnant.
The test is 100% risk free for mother and baby, with only a blood sample required from the mother.
Our baby gender test uses state-of-the-art processes to identify foetal DNA within the mother’s blood sample and determine whether any Y-chromosomal DNA is present.
If a Y chromosome is present, this is indicative of a male child. If a Y chromosome is not present, this is indicative of a female child.
Drug testing
Employing some of the foremost toxicology scientists in their field, our UKAS-accredited toxicology laboratory uses the most up-to-date technology to detect a wide range of drugs and their metabolites.
We can establish whether an individual has been misusing drugs during a defined period of up to 12 months.
Our laboratory can test a wide range of biological samples for the presence of drugs and their metabolites, including oral fluid (saliva), urine, head hair, body hair and nail clippings.
Alcohol testing
AlphaBiolabs’ alcohol testing is carried out at our state-of-the-art UKAS-accredited toxicology laboratory.
We can establish whether an individual has been misusing alcohol during a defined period of up to 12 months.
Our toxicology scientists can test a wide range of biological samples including head hair, body hair, blood, nails and breath, for a historic or real-time insight into an individual’s alcohol consumption.
Covid-19 testing
From travel testing to PCR and lateral flow antigen testing, rapid and advanced antibody testing and whole genome sequencing, we offer fast, accurate and reliable Covid-19 testing solutions direct from our state-of-the-art laboratory.
We have a successful track record of partnering with numerous clinics, pharmacies, occupational health services and healthcare/medical service providers for Covid-19 testing.
We are also listed on the UK government website as an approved private provider of Covid-19 testing.
What our partners say
“We are hugely impressed with the brilliant customer service provided by AlphaBiolabs. With other testing laboratories, we have struggled to receive the level of support required to deliver a smooth service for our clients. With AlphaBiolabs, we’ve had exceptional service throughout, and the account team is on hand whenever we need them. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them in the future and would happily recommend their services to our clients.”
Operations Coordinator
